History of Weblogic Server

BEA Systems, Inc. was a company specialized in enterprise infrastructure software products. They were having three major products as below:

1. Tuxedo, now Oracle Tuxedo - transaction-oriented middleware platform

2. BEA WebLogic, now Oracle Weblogic Server - Java EE enterprise infrastructure platform

3. AquaLogic, now Oracle Service Bus - Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform

In 1998, BEA acquired the San Francisco and start-up Weblogic, which had built the first standards-based Java application server. WebLogic's application server became the impetus for the Sun Microsystems' J2EE specification and formed the basis of BEA's WebLogic application server sold today.

The name BEA Weblogic turned into Oracle WebLogic Server as a JAVA EE Application server currently developed by Oracle Corporation when Oracle acquired WebLogic Server by purchasing BEA System  in 2008.

What is Weblogic Server?

Oracle WebLogic Server is a scalable, enterprise-ready Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application server. 

Weblogic Server is a kind of server that supports various services as well as infrastructure that are related with J2EE applications. WebLogic server is capable of deploying components as well as applications through WSDL, UDDI and SOAP. This definition is quite harder to understand no worries move ahead it will get simple....

Weblogic server gets configured as a web server by making use of HTTP listener for supporting the HTTP reuqests.  The configuration of a web server allows WebLogic is capable of providing services to dynamic and static requests that are usually generated by servlets, HTMS pages and JSP.

Weblogic Server is a software product that acts as a liaison between front end and back end applications. Weblogic Application Server is widely used for its JMS capabilities.
